Village Recruitment

We are always happy to talk to people wanting to move into the area or become citizens of the villages. Come and chat to us and please read the Bear's Charter which is part of the recruitment for all our villages. It says a lot about who we are!

What Bears?

Did you know Wurm is stuffed with Bears?

This site is the home of a few of them. Not the furry ones, rather a collection of people who live round The Bay of Bears, a large bay east of Newtown, if you are in a rush. There are two main centres, one each side of the bay; the Village of Small Bears and Serene Bear Landing. And there is plenty of room round the coast road for people to move in and become part of this wonderful community.

If you want to know more, go and sign up to Wurm Online, log in and come looking for us. We are just five minutes east of Newtown over the hill. You will be warmly welcomed!

What is a Bear?

A Bear is open-minded and tolerant.
A Bear does not judge others by colour, race or creed or by place of birth
A Bear is open eyed and open eared to what others have to say
A Bear is a worthwhile ally when in a fix
A Bear remembers to stop and think before doing
A Bear wants to be remembered for the positive, not the negative
A Bear asks rather than tells
A Bear believes in Peace, not confrontation.

bearbay-first-tbA bit of a late update! This writer is off to the wilds of Cornwall very shortly and things Wurm Shape and Swedish have taken precedence over things Wurmy and tunnel shaped! But I did drop by much earlier to see the progress, for a few hours before the gallant miners had joined hands across the divide and the connection between Newtown and The Bay of Bears was made!

Xallo said is best. "So basically, we carved the tunnel further, then we saw an entrance up ahead near the Bear of Bays. It was quite small, just a nub mine. We halted there until we could investigate the area more. We decided to work on the Bear of Bays side, finding a good spot to make an underground dock. We found our spot, made a few areas to park a boat inside, raised the ceiling, and then further charged on.

xello-cart-tbWhen you are sitting on a tree trunk on the side of the road playing your blues harmonica, you see many things pass you by. The odd bear with its paws in its ears, a scorpion running home to mama with the dinner, and this fellow, Mr Xallo, pulling what appeared to be a heavy cart. He nodded affably enough, and bid me the time of day, as one does on a warm Wurmian evening.

"You headed to the tunnel works," I asked
"Sure," he said. "Picked up some stuff from Bear Bay and going there now."
"Looks heavy," I noted, nodding towards the cart.
"The people over the hill needs lots of stuff, so yeah, it is."
"Well I will let you get on," I said, snapping a quick photo for the record. "But one question."
"Okay..."
"Why you coming this way? The fastest way is up over the other road."

The Work Begins

It may be raining, but work has begun on the Great Newtown-Bay of Bears Canal Tunnel

Piles of dirt, scattered tree trunks, by the morning light a handful of volunteers scraping away the dirst from the hillside to the North East of Newtown, across the lake, to expose the resilient rock. It is not easy, this project will take the combined effort of many Wurmians, will require teamwork of the like not seen since the Twin Bears (the Colossi of Small Bears) and more than that. Wurmians of all skill levels have volunteered to make this fledgling plan a reality and are travelling from all corners of Jenn Kellon.

tunnelFor those of you that are very observant, you may have noticed that young Xallo has signed up to the site. And there is a good reason for this.

He wants to do the project that Bears have been talking about for sometime - digging a tunnel from the Bay of Bears to Newtown!

The idea is that he will recruit extra workers and take on the management (especially the Newtown end) together with any Bears that want to work with him.

Of course, the obvious starting point is the tentative canal we started in the Small Bears mine. I mentioned that for this to be truly a GREAT project, that rather than just a tunnel, it should be a vaulted canal with walkways either side and probably lit as well.

As part of the project a bunkhouse with beds will need to be constructed for the workers and they will also need food. So a lot of planning.

Xallo is now a member of this site, however, so talk it over on the forums! I am staying out of this one - so it is all down to you chaps. Just make it overwhelming!

Bear Bay

Somewhere in the mists of time (last year I think), a community was established on the shores of the Bay of Bears. It was not called the bay of bears then, it was simply a wet place that people built next to. The community named it self for the frequent sightings of brown bears swimming across the bay, and so Bear Bay was established. Time changed and this original community faded. Later, the last vestiges were picked up by our friend Sillyma and it was named Serene Bear Landing. By this time the Village of the Small Bears was established and growing, and the bay had become The Bay of Bears, named with a nod towards that original community.

Now, Bear Bay is back!

Small Bears will NOT be broken PDF Print E-mail

Today, Perji reported to me a serious griefing incident back at the Village of the Small Bears.

One or more so-called players have chopped down the majority of the Willow Trees, vandalised the garden and created two large dirt heeps across the road.

This has been reported, though I am not hopeful that whoever did this will be found. We are not the only village to be attacked, I gather. If we do find who did it, I will press for them to be banned.

One clue is that the QL of all the wood is around 7 or 8, so we may be talking a basic player here - maybe one or more exiled from the Wild Server.

However, I will NOT see this as some sort of wound to our community.

We have willows in the village and some remain at the top of the hill towards NT. Let us find new sprouts and get them planted.

The garden can be replanted with a mixture of bushes and trees - 1 maple, 1 Pine, 1 Olive, couple of roses ... what ever can be found that make is beautiful again.

The dirt heaps may be in the right spot for other plans, or they can be flattened.

Within weeks it will look as it did, maybe better, and the miscreants can go jump as far as I care.

Let us not be defeated by such childish behaviour by any grubby little thugs. I know the kind, they are the ones that run for it when they meet me in real life. (I am neither small not pretty, and the Bear nickname was a description)

The Village of the Small Bears will still be a bright beacon on the landscape!
